About the Organisation:

Mother Rural and Urban Development Society (MRUDS)  works in the  Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil nadu and Karnataka  of India and is currently one of the Grass root NGO’s in India. It was founded by a group of development activists and social workers who had a background in rural development. Its unique genesis resulted in two advantages for the foundation of the organisation it initiated its program with people possessing prior field experience and owing to the specific background it inherited a broad and comprehensive outlook encompassing a socio-economic and environmental development perspective.

The founders of MRUDS were inspired by the ideology of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, who said that “there is no freedom for India unless its villages are free” and that “independence must begin at the bottom”. 

MRUDS ’s work strongly reflects this ideology. We are convinced that development in India can only take place when its most underprivileged members are able to fight with strength, courage and confidence for their own political, economic and social needs. We believe that rural communities, when given a chance, will find solutions for their problems and bring positive change to their own lives, and to those of the future generations. 

A unique feature of this approach is the development of innovative and adaptable strategies based on continuous communication at the community level.

MRUDS helps communities to find answers for themselves by giving all its members an active and participative role right from the beginning. MRUDS does not work for the people, but with the people in order to achieve the overall objective: making a community a viable unit for its own development.

MRUDS  is a not-for-profit NGO which has been working for the welfare and empowerment of older persons of India since 2003. MRUDS has set up a network of volunteers spread across India and interacts with older persons on daily basis through its volunteers’ network.

MRUDS is a close-knit team of concerned individuals from varied fields, each with a track record of success, sharing regard and concern for the old. People who have come together to find a way out of the loneliness that most old people have to face. There are professionals, senior bureaucrats, university professors; artists, writers, judges – all people who sincerely feel for the cause. To support their efforts is a dedicated management, a team of professionals & trained counsellors charged with zeal to work for the society.

MRUDS seeks to reach out to larger audience of Communities and act as a catalyst of change in bridging the gap between generations and ensuring respectful and comfortable life for old people. MRUDS  interacts with older persons and their caregivers at all levels Family, Community and State.
